Europe repair shipping

Sending a TCM to the UK for Repair and Return

We accept TCM and mechatronic control units from across Europe. The important part is declaring the shipment accurately as your own used automotive unit temporarily sent to the UK for repair and return, not as a sale or gift.

What to write

Keep the description clear and accurate.

Courier systems use different wording, so choose the closest repair-and-return or temporary export option they provide.

Suggested goods description

Used automotive transmission control unit temporarily sent to the United Kingdom for repair and return to owner. No sale. Ownership unchanged.
  • Use the real sender and receiver details
  • Enter an accurate customs value accepted by your courier and customs authority
  • Keep the export or temporary-export paperwork
  • Include your repair reference and TCM part number
  • Use tracked shipping and package the unit securely

Do not do this

  • Do not mark the parcel as a gift if it is not a gift
  • Do not describe the unit as sold goods when ownership is not changing
  • Do not deliberately understate the value
  • Do not throw away the outward customs paperwork before the repaired unit returns

Customs rules and courier processes vary by country. This guide supports the shipment but does not replace your courier's customs declaration or professional customs advice.

Repair and return

Why the paperwork matters.

The unit belongs to you before, during and after the repair. Customs systems need enough information to distinguish a temporary repair movement from an ordinary purchase.

1. Export from your country

If your courier offers a temporary export, outward processing or repair-and-return option, use the option that accurately matches the shipment.

2. UK repair

The unit is imported to the UK for repair and is intended to leave the UK again after the service. UK customs procedures for repair goods can include inward processing where applicable.

3. Return to you

Keep the original export paperwork. Your courier or customs authority may need it when the repaired unit is re-imported.

Official guidance: HMRC describes inward processing for goods imported to the UK for repair and re-export. EU customers may also have access to outward-processing procedures in their own customs system. If your courier asks for a specific procedure code, ask the courier or a customs broker rather than guessing.
